Male Vocal Mic Shootout - Tele CU-29, Kiwi, and Blueberry

Description

All three mics (Telefunken CU-29 Copperhead, BLUE Kiwi, and BLUE Blueberry) had the exact same chain.  A standard pop filter, then the mic into a MOTU 24 bit 88.2 sample rate conversion into Pro Tools, While all three mics complemented my voice the "Copperhead" was the most natural; however the "Kiwi" had the most presence and a bit of air and clarity I was after.  The "Blueberry" had a great clarity, was less prone to proximity effect and was great for rock tunes and back-up vocals.  Bought all three!

Audio Clips

  • Telefunken - CU-29 "Copperhead"

Had the most accurate representation of my actual voice; almost like the sound was in the center of my head even with headphones on; it was very cool.

  • BLUE Kiwi

This one was the best fit for how I wanted my voice to be captured, a little brighter than reality, but totally natural, loved it!

  • BLUE Blueberry

This one was a bit thinner, but amazingly clear and very little proximity effect for a large condenser mic. Great for back-up vocals and songs that are really full mixes to help the voice cut through. Also am very happy with this one.
