ADK mics on male vocal

Description

These were done on separate takes for each mic. I kept about 12" from the mic, perhaps a bit more, in order to avoid proximity effect. They were recorded through the Focusrite ISA digital converters into ProTools LE. No processing.

Audio Clips

  • Male Voice - ADK CS47Y - Focusrite ISA 428

  • Male Voice - ADK TC 67-Au - Focusrite ISA 428

  • Male Voice ADK Vienna 12-Au Focusrite ISA 428

  • Of the 3 I liked the Vienna least. Way too sibilant for my liking. Also didnt really like the proximity thing going on. The 67 had quite a bit more girth and more robust mids. I could see that working on some of the stuff I do. I'd love to shoot it out against the Tele M16. I could see how the 47Y could work in a busy rock mix but I wasn't wild on the raw track. So of the three the 67 was the definate winner for me.

  • PS. Good job on tracking them though!

  • I like the CS47Y here because it brings the voice to the front, without sounding bright. The TC67 has the most bass, the Vienna is the brightest, and the CS47Y has the most mids.

  • Thanks! The 67 sounds really nice on this smooth vocal! Good work.
